STOP Smoking Program

Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death, and our pharmacy is committed to helping people quit smoking. Our STOP Smoking Program increases your chances of quitting smoking.

How Does It Work?

First, we will review your medical history, analyze your smoking patterns, and conduct a smoking assessment. After that, our pharmacist will have a one-on-one consultation with you to discuss your personalized quitting plan. Your plan may include advice on tapering your cigarette use, drug therapy, tips and tricks to mitigate cravings, and other personalized suggestions based on your medical history and lifestyle. Our pharmacist will also provide further consultation and follow up throughout your quitting process to ensure that you are on the right path and have the support that you need.

Why use a stop smoking program?

Our pharmacist has undergone smoking cessation training and is able to prescribe medications that can help you quit smoking (including Champix, nicotine patch, nicotine gum, and others). Our pharmacist also follows up to ensure you get the support you need to keep you on the path to quitting.

If you have tried to quit multiple times, or if this is the first time you have thought of quitting, talk to our pharmacist today about our STOP Smoking Program and give yourself the best shot at quitting for good.

Minor ailments prescribing

Our pharmacists are authorized to assess and prescribe medications for a wide range of self‑limiting, minor ailments. Common conditions include acne, allergic rhinitis, athlete’s foot, canker sores, dermatitis, hemorrhoids,  vomiting in pregnancy and more. After a direct consultation, our pharmacists document their clinical rationale, offer appropriate therapeutic options, and explain any potential risks.

If any “red flag” symptoms are identified, patients are promptly referred to a doctor or emergency services for further evaluation. If you’re unable to book a timely appointment with your physician, our pharmacy team can provide fast, first‑response care to help you manage minor health concerns safely and efficiently.

Counselling and Consultations

You can consult our pharmacists whenever you need guidance on prescription medications. They can also help you choose an over-the-counter product that best addresses your health concern or ailment.

-UTI assessments and treatment prescribing – Our pharmacists are authorized to assess and prescribe treatment for uncomplicated, recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs/cystitis) in non‑pregnant women, offering faster and more accessible care. This service is available to patients with a previously diagnosed, low‑risk UTI and is covered for up to three assessments per year with a valid Manitoba Health card.

What counts as an uncomplicated UTI? An uncomplicated UTI is a bladder infection caused by typical bacteria in individuals with internal reproductive organs with no structural or functional abnormalities of the urinary tract (e.g., no catheter, normal kidney function, no spinal cord injury).

Opioid replacement therapy

Our pharmacists are trained in Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT) to support patients receiving Methadone or Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone).

Weight-loss support

Our pharmacists provide medication management, and support for prescribed weight-loss treatment. Our pharmacists can help you manage safe, evidence‑based treatments and review whether medications such as Wegovy (semaglutide), Saxenda (liraglutide), or Contrave (bupropion/naltrexone) may be suitable for you. During your initial consultation, the pharmacist reviews your medical history, current medications, lifestyle habits, and health goals to build a tailored plan.
